Alcohol information
Alcohol use touches many people’s lives, young and old. For those that drink, alcohol is something to be enjoyed in safe amounts. However, where it is misused alcohol is also a major contributor to a range of harms. Alcohol is the most common drug of addiction used in this country.
It has a significant impact on Nottinghamshire, with national, regional and local data suggesting approximately 114,000 people are hazardous or harmful drinkers (drinking regularly above the Department of Health recommended limits) and 9,000 people are dependant drinkers.
Nottinghamshire County Drug and Alcohol Action Team
Nottinghamshire County Drug and Alcohol Action Team is an active, working partnership that seeks to break the harm done to society by the problematic use of drugs and alcohol. We do this by commissioning drug treatment services, and working with our partners to achieve the targets and priorities set by the Government in the seven districts of Nottinghamshire County.

Drink Aware
The alcohol content of drinks is measured in units. One UK unit contains eight grams of pure alcohol.
The UK Government advises that men should not regularly drink more than three to four units a day and women not more than two to three. Consistently drinking four or more units for men, and three or more for women, isn't advisable because of the progressive health risks it carries. After an episode of heavy drinking it is advisable to refrain from drinking for 48 hours. And of course, in some situations like pregnancy , it's better to avoid drinking alcohol.
